Research on both forms of diabetes seems to be closely moving in on a cure at a centralized research facility. Aptly named the Diabetes Research Institute, this organization pioneers research in all forms of diabetes as well as discovering better health care methods and standards. One of the more successful (and very expensive) treatments of diabetes, the transplantation of working pancreatic cells (islet cell transpants), was developed in their capable hands. They are currently collaborating with scientists from around the world in this effort by distributing pure islet cells to over fifty different labs. In addition, they also provide a central point from which to track diabetic research on their website: www.drinet.org. <Previous: Treatment|Next: Page Resources> |
